Mission: Innovating and partnering with people and families who have experienced a cognitive disability to regain autonomy to live lives of self-determined meaning, dignity and respect.
Mutually Reinforcing Partnerships/Partnering: Participants are viewed as people first, and services are completed with them rather than for or to them. There is a genuine interest in their exploration and achievement, with partnerships maintained through all aspects of their journey.
Autonomy: Recognizing the importance of autonomy, the approach involves encouraging decision-making and empowering participants to build confidence through making even small decisions.
Pride and Self-esteem: Building self-esteem by identifying strengths and abilities and applying them to new challenges. Support is provided as needed, allowing participants to take ownership of their lives.
Interdependence and Social Capital: Acknowledging the interdependence of individuals within a community, the approach assists participants in developing social capital and connections to maintain involvement in the community, leading to decreased isolation.
Celebrating Wins: Acknowledging and celebrating even the smallest victories, as doing so can motivate participants to step outside their comfort zones and continue achieving goals.
